These numbers include the cost of the classes, the expense of services, and the expense of a room – men with other men in an apartment, or women in an apartment with a family.

Services?  Pick-up at the airport, assistance enrolling at the University, escort through the process of blood tests ( required of all foreigners studying or working in Syria ), assistance with the iqama process ( required of all foreigners ), signing up for a cell-phone, and all the other details of living and studying in a new culture.

Living arrangements?  Men with stay in an apartment with other men.  A live-in tutor will help the men with their studies and daily dealings with Damascus.  Women will stay with an Arabic-speaking family.
